Bears and Treestands
By bowhunting biologist Wade Nolan
I have been on some great bear hunts where the scariest part wasn’t walking out of the forest in the dark when bears were prowling around, but climbing into a treestand that was built out of skinny spruce poles…probably back when my dad was a kid. (more..)

Time-Release Trophy Black Bears
Eighteen year old Mike Ma used the expertise of master guide Brent Mitchell to take this giant Sask. black bear about a week ago. What made it especially significant is that Brent used the magic of 24/Seven time release granules to lure in the big bruin. (More)

_______Boot Maintenance Made Simple
By Jerry Bush
Assuming you have purchased a good quality, waterproof, leather boot, you should be able to cut across streams season after season and expect to have dry feet. However, regular maintenance will maximize performance and greatly increase the life of your footwear while guaranteeing their performance. (more...)_

Cross Dressing
By Lisa Price

This morning’s jog is a balancing act. Overnight the snow melt has frozen enough to cast a glaze in unlikely places, and my dog Josey, despite the guarantee of his no-pull harness, is towing me along as if he’s starring in a dream called How I Won the Iditarod – highly unlikely, since he’s a German shorthaired pointer. TURKEYS…THE EYES HAVE IT
By bowhunting biologist Wade Nolan
“Sit against a tree, cluck three times and get your gun up.” Actually it’s not that easy. Ask any turkey hunter and you will get a 30 minute to one hour story on what it takes to tag a gobbler. Somewhere in the story he will say these words, “If turkeys could smell you we couldn’t kill them.” But most of his how-to instruction would relate directly to avoiding the turkeys incredible eye sight. Fact is we have most of it right and what I’m about to tell you will cause a lot of gobblers to get tipped over. I’m feeling a little guilty, but here we go. (more...)

24/Seven Scents

A buck’s nose doesn’t have to be on the ground to smell
where you walked. The Achilles heel of scent hunting for whitetails
is contamination of the site by human scent. This is especially true
when laying down a scent trail that you hope a whitetail will follow
into your trap... (more...)

Mamba
Madness
On a recent safari to Africa, I hand-caught a
wild nine-foot Black Mamba. It was a calculated risk...involving bad
calculation.

PENETRATION
TEST - FIXED VS.. MECHANICAL
The fixed blade vs.. mechanical issue
may be settled after a series of scientific tests. What
we learned during the testing is going to make you re-think what you
thought you knew about broadhead performance.

The Final Detail
By Lisa Price

My years as a reporter taught me that one thing guaranteed to bring out the best and worst in people is the stage of small-town politics. As I sat in a climbing stand that afternoon - calculating the last possible time I could leave, change clothes in the headlight-blocking security of the cornfield and drive to the assignment. WHITETAIL UNIVERSITY BOW REPORT
BOW: THE BEAR TRUTH
BY LARRY WISE

PART ONE
This bow report will be a little different from others you’ve seen presented in other forums and magazines. Whitetail University is a learning center and, as such, I will do some teaching as I write about what I feel is important for you, the consumer, to know about this particular bow. (more...)
PART TWO
In the first half of this bow report I evaluated three of seven areas that concern me when preparing, tuning and shooting a new bow. They were the draw stroke, the power stroke and the accessory setup steps. (more...)
The Blades
Written by Hovey Smith
Chuck Buck, of Buck Knives, is fond of saying, “The blade is the thing,” implying that all the design frills and appearance factors are of little importance if a knife’s blade is not adequate for the task. This is also true of fixed and mechanical broadheads. Grim Reaper’s designs focused first on producing sharp, durable and easily-replaceable blades and then they devised a superior mechanism to insure reliable function and killing potential. (more...)
Hunting with a Plan
By Jerry Bush
Over the past 15-years, few innovations have affected bowhunting for whitetail deer more than the use of artificially introduced scents. It is rare to cross paths with a bowhunter who is not carrying a plastic bottle, filled with some type of lure. (more...)
