"ASAT
CAMO IS BACK" The year was 1986 and I was sitting on a stand platform over Alaska’s Chickaloon River. The mosquitoes had found me but the three black bears on my bait within 20 yards of me had no idea I was there. It was the first day that I had ever worn a manufactured camo pattern and I was impressed. Like all Alaskans, up until now, I had relied on army surplus wool and plaid jackets. I have spent nearly 1000 hours working with filming and hunting black bears and I know one thing, they always pick you off….but not today. This camo really worked and I was soon to become a campaigner for this particular pattern. It wasn’t pretty. As a matter of fact, at first I felt real self conscious wearing it into public places, even into my local bow shop. Then the buzz began to happen and before 24 months had passed virtually every serious hunter in America and Canada knew about ASAT CAMO. The art of camouflage became of age back in the early 80’s when hunters first learned that there was more than woodland camo and green army pants to wear when hunting First there was Treebark and a few patterns that tried to mimic individual elements of the woods. Then a group of thinkers emerged that backed up and looked at the camo issue. They discovered that camouflage is more than looking like a tree. This scientific perspective of camouflage gave way to basic principals that define camo. ASAT didn’t have to be discovered, only perfected in a pattern for hunters. It’s based on constant patterns found in the outdoor environment. ASAT relies on a tan background broken by black and brown curved lines that interrupt the edge. The background a tan hue which corresponds with a specific nanometer reading of light that actually reflects the colors found in it’s proximity to make ASAT a perfect match for any terrain. ASAT camo was developed by decoding the science of camouflage. It was named to represent its goal, camo that works in All Seasons and in All Terrain. This pattern is clearly one of, if not the best example of concealment science discovered to date. It has a strong following and now it has a new beginning. Rob Smallock of Anaconda, Montana acquired ASAT and he is making the pattern sing again. With demand that is growing each day he and his partner Steve Fournier have laid out a strategy to take ASAT to new heights. ASAT is a solid camo pattern with solid financial backing. The new ASAT 3-D is the hottest camo strategy yet combining the invisibility of ASAT with the benefits of a 3-D leafy suit. ASAT is the perfect camo for eastern whitetailer’s, southern turkey hunters and can’t be beat when pursuing elk. It is the camo that will get you closer, and if you are a serious hunter…close matters. I still wear ASAT when I’m not being paid to wear something else on camera. I just returned from Africa where Bowhunter Brent Henderson and I did some hunting and filming with ASAT 3-D in the Waterburg Mountains just south of Botswana. We took the footage back to safari camp and the guides said, “Where did you get that camo? Is it made for Africa? Is it new?” “No”, I replied, “it’s only new to you, it’s called ASAT”. “Where can I get some” they asked. Do one of the A’s stand for Africa? www.asatcamo.com
